How an RCD works
A residual current device monitors the current flowing in and out of a circuit. If it detects a leak to earth, it cuts the power in milliseconds.
Testing your RCD
Press the test button every few months. If it does not trip, call an electrician.
If you notice burning smells, smoke, sparking, heat, exposed wiring or repeated unexplained tripping, stop using the affected circuit and contact a qualified electrical professional. Don't remove electrical covers or attempt electrical repairs yourself.
